Directions to the Lighthouse
At this time, only the lighthouse is open for public access (click on the Schedule of Events link above to view this year's schedule). A video surveillance system is in use to protect the lighthouse from vandalism and trespassing. The buoy and coal sheds are in a secured area and are not open to the public due to safety concerns.
In addition to special events, two types of regularly scheduled public access events are offered: daytime open house events and nighttime paranormal investigations. No reservations are required for the daytime open house events. The paranormal night-time tours are by reservation only.
Open House Events
The Point Lookout Lighthouse, located in Scotland, Maryland inside the Point Lookout State Park, is open to the public on the first Saturday of the month from April through November, from 10 am until 2 pm. The open house events are free and no reservations are required, however, visitors will be required to pay the standard park entrance fees. Please note that fees are subject to change and are for admission to the park. Admission to the lighthouse is free, but donations to help with the preservation efforts are greatly appreciated. Docents will be available at the open house events to answer questions about the rich maritime history of the lighthouse; historical information about the lighthouse can be found online at www.ptlookoutLighthouse.com. There are also additional areas north of the lighthouse that are of historical significance to the Civil War, such as Fort Lincoln and the site of the small pox hospital. The Department of Natural Resources maintains a website with additional information about the park. If you have additional questions, please visit the park's website, send an email to: info@PLLPS.org, or call the park at:
(301) 872-5688.
Paranormal Night Events
Is the Point Lookout Lighthouse haunted? Nightime paranormal investigations seek to answer this question. The investigations have limited space and require advance registration at a cost of $50 per person, with a maximum of 10 participants per event. The investigations run from 9 pm until 2 am and occur on specific Saturday nights in the spring and fall. Please click on the Schedule of Events link above for available upcoming investigation dates. All funds raised from the Paranormal Night events are used by the Point Lookout Lighthouse Preservation Society (PLLPS), Inc. to provide educational programs and rehabilitation of the historical structures located at the Point Lookout Lighthouse Complex.
For further information or to register for an upcoming paranormal event, please email our Director of Paranormal Investigations, Kim Hammond at:

The cost is $50 per person with a maximum of 10 people for each event. Please note that if you reserve less than 10 slots, the remaining slots may be sold to other groups or individuals. Reservations are non-refundable. All scheduled events are subject to cancellation for inclement weather; if in doubt, we recommend that you check the DNR website or call the park at (301) 872-5688 to confirm.
